Pre/Post Microblading Instructions

So you’ve decide to take the brow plunge and get your brows microbladed! YAHOO!

Please read all of the following information to ensure you are well prepared for your appointment and know what to expect in advance.

Contraindications:

This treatment may not be for you if any of the following apply:

  • Are pregnant or nursing
  • Are using skincare containing retinol, AHAs/BHAs, hydroquinone, and benzoyl peroxide. (Must discontinue use a minimum of 14 days prior to the appointment)
  • Have had a chemical peel within the last 4 weeks
  • Has had Botox done within the last 2 weeks
  • Are taking Accutane (must be off for at least 6 Months)
  • Are taking antibiotics
  • Are taking prescription blood thinning medications (Must discontinue use 1 week prior to the appointment)
  • Are diabetic (Consult your doctor to receive a note)
  • Undergoing Chemotherapy
  • Have skin conditions such as severe acne, keloid scarring, eczema or psoriasis (in the area to be treated)
  • Sick with a cold or flu-like virus
  • Have a sunburn

How to prepare for the appointment:

  • Discontinue the use of skincare containing retinol, AHAs/BHAs, hydroquinone, and benzoyl peroxide 2 weeks prior to the treatment.
  • Avoid having facials treatments or chemical peels 4 weeks prior
  • Avoid sun/tanning bed exposure for 2 weeks BEFORE and AFTER the procedure.  The skin can be extremely sensitive and irritated from a sunburn, so we cannot perform the treatment if there is a sunburn present. If the client has a rich, and recent tan, the skin will naturally exfoliate at a quicker rate, and therefore the pigment will lighten more than the average.
  • Do not consume alcohol, caffeine or over the counter blood thinners (aspirin, ibuprofen) 48 hours before your procedure, to avoid excess bleeding. Excess caffeine can also tend to make the client more sensitive to pain.
  • If they are planning to have a Brow Lamination or a Hybrid Brow Tint service done, it must be done no sooner than 6 weeks prior to your appointment. Brow lamination can alter the natural direction of the brow hair, and we want to ensure that when we do the microblading treatment, we blend the strokes as best as possible with the natural hair pattern.
  • If you are planning on having their brows tidied up before the microblading treatment, waxing or threading services must be done at least 72 hours prior.  The skin can be very sensitive after having them waxed/threaded and we do not want to cause irritation or a reaction.
  • If you would like to do a classic brow tinting, that must be done at least one week prior.
  • Botox & Fillers must be avoided two weeks before and after the treatment.
  • It’s notable to know that booking your appointment near your monthly cycle can make you more sensitive.

How to care for your brows

Day 1: Gently wipe your brows with provided saline wipes 2-3 hours after your appointment, then apply aftercare cream with a Q-tip. Also do the same before you go to bed and again, apply a light layer of your aftercare cream.

Day 2-10: With clean hands, wash your brows morning and night with a gentle cleanser (lather cleanser in hands first). Blot brows COMPLETELY dry with a clean tissue or paper towel. Apply aftercare cream immediately after. *only apply the size of a grain of rice on each brow.

*If your brows feel very tight and dry as you heal, you can apply another light coat of your aftercare cream, as long as it is a very thin layer.
When removing makeup on the face, wash around the brows with a cleansing cloth or oil-free makeup wipe. Be mindful to not get makeup residue in your brows.

AVOID THE FOLLOWING DURING HEALING:

For the first two weeks:

  • Application of brow makeup
  • Activities that will cause sweating
  • Swimming pools, hot tubs, or other bodies of water
  • UV exposure (including tanning booths) *ideally avoid for 4 weeks
  • Soaking your brows with water, a little moisture in the shower is okay, just be sure to blot them dry as soon as your shower is finished.
  • Scratching or removal of scabs, dry skin/flakiness.
  • Botox (in the forehead area)

For the first 4 weeks:

  • Exfoliants, skincare containing retinol, AHA’s, or hydroquinone on the forehead/brow area (causes premature fading).
  • Facials, or skin treatments for 4 weeks.
  • Brow waxing/threading/tinting for at least 4 weeks.
  • Laser light therapy, as it can darken/lighten or distort the pigment

For 6 week post treatment:

  • Hybrid brow tinting
  • Brow lamination

The results and longevity of the microblading will depend greatly on how you take care of your brows during the healing process and beyond. Each client’s skin responds differently to microblading, both the length of time it takes to heal, and the number of sessions required to achieve your desired results and colour retention.
